The painted cut scenes were very pretty.. This was a very nice game. The soundtrack is great and the story is good. The graphics are beautiful.. I bought this and Child of Light around the same time (this was awhile ago), and never even bothered picking this up with how sleepy the first made me...but this game blew me away!*PROS*- Lots of secret areas/exploration- Interesting stance-dependant battle system- Amazing art style/direction (everything is cohesive and just meshes together perfectly)- A well-balanced skill system- Great story/lore*CONS*- There were times when I wasn't quite sure where to go - but this game rewards exploration (so it turned out OK)!- Once you accumulate your fourth and fifth party members leveling their skills can be a little bit of a pain.Seriously, with all of the effort the developer must have put into this - just get it!. This one really surprised me, went beyond my expectations and hopes. It really shows how much love and effort went into making this game.I do have to note that in no moment I came across any of the game breaking / severe bugs that seems to have hit some people. Pros: +Fantastic art-style +Deceptively simple combat with a place for tactics +Nice sound-track +Good story Cons: -Pretty small resolution (600x480) -A couple small bugs here and there -The crippling slow move speed. This is a good game! the mechanics are straight forward, but fun, the characters are interesting, and the story is a bit mature but also fantastical (in a childish sort of way). There isn't any dramatic twists and turns, but it reads like a classic fairy tale. A bit dark, but somehow still fun. The combat itself is your average JRPG flair, if a bit easy (enemies aren't particularly challenging), but it's passable enough and has enough strategy that it's entertaining. And at a dozen hours, you'll probably finish the game by the time you start getting bored with it. A really fun, sweet game that you should get!. It's a JRPG. You probably know what to expect from that, particularly if you troll steam for rpgmaker games periodically like I do. And when you do, you sometimes find a gem like this one.Gorgeous Art and Sound Design is the first thing that stands out here- Amber Throne is a beautiful game. Every enviroment I've encountered is distinct and interesting, every enemy and character apart of a consistent and appealing style, and no music track has outstayed its welcome.To support that, we have a turn-based combat system that's very strong and interesting. Not great about giving you clear instructions to figure out what you need to do, but not overly obtuse, and full of fun ideas. Even the times I've died have felt more like I wanted to take another crack at it than like the game wasn't fair. No Grinding either, which a lot of games like this on steam have been leaning towards lately. Fight the enemies that show up, and you'll be all set, though there is the option to grind if you have to.Story thus far is a bit vague on a lot of seemingly-important hard details, like who your player character actually is, but does a good job engaging you with what's immediately happening, and making those events work really well. And I've gotten enough of a trickle of information that this seems to be a low burn, not information we're flat-out never going to recieve, which is all well and good. It works well, it's definitely got a direction and themes and interesting places to explore, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing where it leads.I've also never seen an rpg that made me yell at NPCs to join my party and then have them do precisely not that (at least for awhile) as much as this game does. I'm not sure if that's a compliment or not, but it's certainly a sign of engagement with the characters.Would happily recommend to anyone who plays JRPGs like this, it's one of the good ones on steam.. This game is beautiful. Just absolutely beautiful in every way, and a very well-designed RPG. Unfortunately, though, it lacks a professional level of polish. I encountered multiple bugs with the game, including one at the very end of the game that rendered it unbeatable for me. So as much as I initially enjoyed this game, I have to warn potential buyers of this.. Fantastic, I wish more RPGs would follow in this mold aesthetic mold. I saw it when it first came out on the Steam new releases page, and after scanning the page decided to take a gamble, it paid off! Wonderful soundtrack, great world to explore, a good story (so far), eye popping visual style, this is easily one of the better RPG maker games available. Some of the story moments actually surprised me at how well thought out and executed they are. There are a few complaints, though: the battle systm is interesting but many of the status/elemental effects seem inconsistent (or are very poorly explained). Its not difficult but you honestly just get the impression the game is cheating sometimes because you are never given a detailed description of how the battle mechanics work, stuff just sometimes decides to be super effective or not. A few of the characters also could hae been fleshed out more (why was Nuo in the party again? I completely forgot). All in all this is a breathtaking game to experience and I highly recommend it for those looking for a good JRPG, especially if you are looking for something different. (as of this writing I am 6 hours in according to Steam). Really worth the price even if it is not on sale ! A must buy if you like the old school vibe
